Woman and Film International Film Festival took place in Toronto from June 8 – 17, 1973 at St Lawrence Centre.
A large performing arts theatre complex opened in 1970 and went on a subsequent tour to cinemas in eighteen Canadian cities.
At the time it was the largest women’s film festival, 180 films were screened including Nell Shipman’s silent film : Back to God’s Country (1919) and Severson’s montage of vagina close-ups, Near the Big Chakra (1971).
